Aperçu — adapté à G2 Legal Limited

Dear Hiring Manager,

G2 Legal's search for an NQ Childcare Solicitor to join the Leeds team is precisely the opportunity I have been working towards. Having developed a strong grounding in Care Proceedings and public law children matters during my training contract, I am drawn to this role for its focus on high-quality, legally aided work that directly impacts the lives of children and families.

My background in family law includes assisting on s.31 threshold applications, drafting position statements for Family Court hearings, and supporting clients through the PLO pre-proceedings process. I completed a dedicated family law seat where I managed a caseload of 20 active matters under supervision, attending 10 hearings across the Family Court. I am confident in Legal Aid Agency billing requirements and understand the importance of accurate file management in a legally aided practice.

1Question

Tell me about a time you managed a complex or emotionally challenging matter during your training contract — how did you support the client while maintaining professional boundaries?

Situation: During my family law seat, I was assisting on a Care Proceedings case involving a mother at risk of losing care of her two children. She was distressed and frequently called the office outside of scheduled appointments. Task: I needed to ensure she felt supported while maintaining clear professional boundaries and keeping the case progressing. Action: I set up a weekly 20-minute check-in call to give her a structured outlet, drafted a plain-English case update letter after each hearing, and worked with my supervisor to prepare her thoroughly for the IRH. Result: The client later told the partner she felt genuinely heard throughout the process. The case concluded with a Supervision Order rather than a Care Order, which was the best achievable outcome given the threshold findings.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to absorb a large volume of new information quickly to assist on a case. How did you organise yourself?

Situation: Three days into my family law seat, I was handed a 400-page bundle for a contested Interim Care Order hearing listed for the following week. Task: I needed to produce a case summary and identify the key threshold documents for the supervising solicitor within 48 hours. Action: I created a colour-coded index of the bundle, flagged the 12 most relevant documents against the s.31 threshold criteria, and drafted a two-page chronology of significant events. I also researched two recent Court of Appeal authorities on proportionality in interim removal cases. Result: The supervising solicitor used my chronology and case summary verbatim in the position statement. The hearing was adjourned on agreed terms, avoiding an interim removal, and my supervisor commended the quality of preparation in my end-of-seat review.
