1Question

Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult customer during a delivery and how you handled it.

Situation: While working a multi-drop route for a food distributor, I arrived at a busy café whose owner was frustrated because a previous delivery had included a short-pick — three cases of coffee were missing. Task: I needed to resolve the complaint on the spot without delaying the remaining 14 drops on my route. Action: I listened calmly, acknowledged the error, documented the discrepancy on the delivery note, and called the depot immediately to arrange a same-day top-up delivery. I also offered to prioritise their drop first the following morning. Result: The customer thanked me directly, the missing stock arrived within two hours, and they remained on the regular route without escalating the complaint to management.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage multiple deliveries under time pressure — what did you do?

Situation: On a Friday shift at a wholesale depot, two drivers called in sick, leaving me with 32 drops instead of my usual 18 across the Hull area. Task: I had to complete all deliveries within the agreed customer time windows without compromising safety or documentation accuracy. Action: I re-sequenced my route using the depot's mapping software to eliminate backtracking, communicated revised ETAs to three time-critical customers before leaving, and skipped my break to gain 30 minutes. Result: I completed 30 of the 32 drops within their windows, with the remaining two customers notified in advance and rescheduled for early the next morning — zero complaints were raised.
