Aperçu — adapté à Tesco

Dear Hiring Manager,

Booker's Picker/Driver role in Grantham stands out to me because it combines two areas where I have hands-on experience: accurate order picking using handheld terminals and delivering a first-class service directly to customers. The emphasis on quality checking, shelf-life awareness, and on-time delivery aligns closely with the standards I hold myself to in every shift.

My background in delivery and warehouse operations has equipped me with a full UK driving licence, a methodical approach to picking and dispatch, and the confidence to handle customer queries and complaints professionally at the doorstep. I have consistently met picking accuracy and delivery time targets in previous roles, and I understand the importance of robust packaging checks before goods leave the branch.

1Question

Tell me about a time you delivered outstanding customer service during a delivery — what happened and what was the outcome?

Situation: While working as a delivery driver for a food wholesaler, I arrived at a restaurant customer to find that two cases of chilled produce had been substituted without prior notice. Task: I needed to resolve the issue on the spot to avoid the customer cancelling the order and losing trust in our service. Action: I called the branch immediately, confirmed the substitution details, clearly explained the reason to the customer, and offered to arrange a priority re-delivery of the original items the following morning. I also logged the discrepancy on the handheld terminal for the manager. Result: The customer accepted the solution, placed their next order as normal, and my manager received a positive comment from the account team. The branch updated its substitution communication process as a direct result.
2Question

Give an example of a time you identified an error in an order before dispatch. What did you do?

Situation: During a morning picking shift at a cash-and-carry depot, I noticed that a pallet destined for a school catering account included 10 cases of a product flagged as past its use-by date within 24 hours — too short for the customer's needs. Task: I had to resolve this before the vehicle was loaded, as dispatching short-dated stock would breach our quality standards and likely result in a return. Action: I immediately flagged the discrepancy to the shift supervisor, isolated the affected cases, and re-picked the correct stock from a newer batch, updating the handheld terminal record. The vehicle departed only 8 minutes behind schedule. Result: The delivery was completed on time, the customer received compliant stock, and no return was raised. The supervisor noted the catch in the team briefing the following day.
