1Question

Tell me about a time you managed multiple competing deadlines across different employment matters — how did you prioritise?

Situation: During a particularly busy period at my previous firm, I was simultaneously supporting three senior solicitors on separate employment tribunal matters, all with overlapping filing deadlines within a single week. Task: I needed to ensure court bundles, witness statements and disclosure schedules were completed accurately and on time for all three cases without compromising quality. Action: I created a priority matrix listing each task by deadline and complexity, communicated daily progress updates to each fee earner, and batched similar tasks — such as formatting and proofreading — across all three files to save time. Result: All three matters were filed on time, one a full day early, and I received written commendation from the supervising partner for my organisation under pressure.
2Question

Describe a situation where your attention to detail identified a significant error in a legal document before it was filed.

Situation: I was proofreading a draft settlement agreement prepared by a senior associate ahead of a next-morning deadline for an unfair dismissal case. Task: My role was to review the document for formatting and consistency before it was sent to the client for signature. Action: During my review, I noticed the termination date stated in the recitals was 14 days earlier than the date referenced in the compensation calculation clause — a discrepancy that would have invalidated the agreed settlement sum. I flagged this immediately to the associate with a tracked annotation and a brief written note explaining the inconsistency. Result: The error was corrected before the document left the firm, avoiding a potential dispute with the client and saving an estimated two hours of remedial drafting time.
