Nos conseils pour postuler

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Lead your CV with a Personal Statement that explicitly states your PQE level in Family Law, as the advert lists '4+ PQE' as the primary threshold requirement.

2

📊 Quantify your caseload: e.g. 'Managed 45 active private family law files simultaneously, including 12 contested financial remedy cases', to demonstrate capacity at Head of Department level.

3

🎯 Highlight any team leadership experience prominently — the role requires running a team of Family Solicitors, so include the number of fee earners you have managed or supervised.

4

🤝 Include a dedicated 'Business Development' section or bullet points showing how you have contributed to client acquisition or referral networks, as the role reports to Partners on new client development.

5

🌐 Mention hybrid working adaptability and any experience managing remote or hybrid teams, as the firm offers a hybrid working scheme and this signals cultural fit.

Aperçu — adapté à Reed

Dear Hiring Manager,

Having built a career focused exclusively on private family law — including complex financial remedy proceedings, pre-nuptial agreements and contested children arrangements — the Head of Department opportunity at your Harlow firm is a natural next step. With over six years' PQE and a track record of supervising junior fee earners through high-stakes matters, I am well placed to lead your Family Law team and contribute to its continued growth.

My background in managing a substantial caseload of divorce, dissolution and cohabitation matters, alongside mentoring solicitors to develop their technical skills, has prepared me for the dual demands of this role. I have also played an active part in client development at my current firm, contributing to a 20% increase in private family law instructions over two years through referral relationships and community engagement.

1Question

Tell me about a time you mentored a junior solicitor through a difficult case — what was your approach and what was the outcome?

Situation: A newly qualified solicitor on my team was handling her first contested financial remedy case involving a pension sharing order and a business valuation dispute. She was struggling to structure her disclosure requests and felt overwhelmed by the expert evidence. Task: As her supervisor, I needed to build her confidence and technical competence without taking over the file. Action: I introduced weekly 30-minute file reviews, walked her through the Form E analysis, and co-drafted the first position statement with her so she could see the reasoning process. I also arranged for her to shadow a final hearing in a similar matter. Result: She ran the PTR independently, secured a favourable consent order for the client, and has since taken on three further financial remedy files without supervision. Her billing increased by 35% in the following quarter.
2Question

Give an example of how you have contributed to winning new clients or growing a department's revenue.

Situation: Our family law department had plateaued at roughly the same level of new instructions for two consecutive years, with most work coming from walk-ins. Task: As senior associate, I proposed a structured referral strategy to the Partners and was given six months to implement it. Action: I identified eight local IFA firms and three accountancy practices whose clients frequently encountered divorce or cohabitation issues. I arranged introductory meetings, produced a one-page referral guide explaining our services, and followed up quarterly. Result: Within nine months, referrals from these professional contacts accounted for 22 new private family law instructions, generating approximately £95,000 in additional fees and prompting the Partners to formalise a firm-wide referral programme.
