Unsere Tipps für Ihre Bewerbung

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Lead with MIG Welding prominently in your CV personal statement — the advert lists it as the first and most critical skill requirement.

2

📊 Quantify your welding experience: e.g. 'Completed MIG welding on 200+ structural steel components across 3 commercial projects, maintaining zero defect rate over 18 months'.

3

🎯 Explicitly state your ability to read engineering drawings in your skills section — the advert flags this as a distinct requirement, so a vague mention won't stand out.

4

🔧 List all fabrication processes you are competent in (cutting, grinding, burning) as a concise bullet list under a 'Core Competencies' section to mirror the advert's own format.

5

📋 Highlight any CIS or umbrella company contracting experience, as the role is offered on a contract basis — demonstrating familiarity with this payment structure removes a potential concern for the hiring manager.

1Question

Tell me about a time you identified a problem with a fabrication job before it became a costly mistake — what did you do?

Situation: I was working on a batch of 20 steel brackets for a mezzanine floor installation when I noticed a discrepancy between the weld symbol on the drawing and the verbal instruction given by the site supervisor. Task: I needed to clarify the correct specification before welding began, as an incorrect weld would have required costly rework on all 20 components. Action: I paused work, flagged the issue directly to the project engineer, and cross-referenced the original fabrication drawing against the revision history. The supervisor had been working from an outdated revision. Result: We corrected the specification before a single weld was laid, saving an estimated half-day of rework and preventing a potential structural non-conformance on the finished installation.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to work to a very tight deadline on a steel fabrication project. How did you manage your time?

Situation: A steel contractor I was working for in Northampton received a last-minute order for 35 fabricated gate frames needed on site within 3 working days. Task: As one of two welders on the job, I was responsible for completing MIG welding on all frames to the required standard within that window. Action: I reorganised my workflow to batch-process the cutting and prep stages first, then moved into continuous welding runs to minimise setup time between components. I also carried out visual inspections in parallel rather than at the end of each batch. Result: All 35 frames were completed, inspected, and loaded for delivery by the end of day two — one full day ahead of the client's deadline.
