Our tips for applying

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Lead your Personal Statement with your PQE level and litigation specialism — the advert explicitly requires 2+ years' PQE and lists specific practice areas (professional negligence, debt recovery, commercial property).

2

📊 Quantify your caseload: e.g. 'Managed 45 active litigation files concurrently, achieving settlement in 80% of cases without proceeding to trial'.

3

🎯 Mirror the advert's listed practice areas in your CV's experience section — professional negligence, debt recovery, commercial property, leases and contract disputes are all named; match these verbatim for ATS.

4

🤝 Include a short line on business development or networking activity, as the advert specifically mentions participation in marketing activities and raising the firm's profile.

5

📋 Highlight any experience managing files independently without supervision, as the advert stresses the ability to handle a varied caseload autonomously — reference this explicitly in your role descriptions.

Dear Hiring Manager,

Commercial litigation across professional negligence, debt recovery and commercial property disputes is where I have built my practice — which is precisely why this Solicitor/Legal Executive opportunity at your Nottinghamshire firm stands out. With over three years of post-qualification experience managing varied litigation caseloads independently, I am confident I can deliver the quality client care and profitable contribution your team requires.

My background in commercial litigation includes advising clients from initial instruction through to resolution on professional negligence claims, contested lease and contract disputes, and County Court debt recovery proceedings. I am accustomed to handling a high volume of active files simultaneously, meeting strict court deadlines, and providing clear, commercially focused advice under pressure.

1Question

Tell me about a time you resolved a complex commercial dispute without proceeding to trial — what was your approach?

Situation: A manufacturing client faced a £95,000 professional negligence claim against a former surveyor following a botched property valuation that led to an overpayment on a commercial lease. Task: I was instructed to advise on the merits and pursue recovery without the cost of a full trial. Action: I drafted a detailed letter of claim under the Pre-Action Protocol, instructed an independent expert to produce a counter-valuation report, and entered into without-prejudice negotiations with the defendant's insurer. I identified a limitation risk in the defendant's position and used this as leverage. Result: We achieved a settlement of £78,000 within four months of instruction, avoiding trial costs estimated at £22,000 and preserving the client's ongoing commercial relationship with the surveying firm.
2Question

Tell me about a time you managed competing deadlines across multiple litigation files. How did you prioritise?

Situation: During a particularly busy quarter, I was simultaneously managing 42 active litigation files, three of which had imminent court deadlines within the same five-day window. Task: I needed to ensure all court documents were filed on time without compromising quality on any matter. Action: I used the firm's case management system to flag all hard deadlines, delegated preliminary drafting on two lower-complexity debt recovery files to a paralegal under my supervision, and blocked two full days for focused drafting on the most complex matter — a contested commercial lease forfeiture. I communicated proactively with all three clients about progress. Result: All three sets of documents were filed on time, the lease forfeiture matter proceeded to a successful summary judgment, and no client complaints were raised during that period.
