Our tips for applying

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Place your PGCE qualification and UK/Ireland training prominently at the top of your CV — the advert explicitly requires UK or Ireland-trained teachers and this is a gatekeeping criterion.

2

📊 Quantify your A-Level teaching impact: e.g. 'Delivered A-Level English Language and Literature to 45 students across Years 12–13, achieving 87% A*–B grades in 2024.'

3

🌐 Include any prior international or British curriculum overseas experience in a dedicated section — the school values teachers who adapt to expat environments and the recruiter highlights this as a differentiator.

4

🎯 Tailor your personal statement to reference the National Curriculum of England explicitly, and mention experience teaching both English Language and English Literature to KS5, as the role covers up to A-Level.

5

🤝 Highlight experience working within collaborative department teams or contributing to CPD/professional development, as the school's culture of mutual support and work-life balance is a stated selling point.

1Question

Tell me about a time you adapted your teaching style to support a student who was significantly underperforming in English.

Situation: In Year 11, I had a student predicted a Grade 3 in GCSE English Language who had disengaged from writing tasks entirely. Task: I needed to re-engage her before the mock examinations, which were six weeks away. Action: I met with her weekly for 20-minute one-to-one sessions, restructured her approach to descriptive writing using a visual planning framework, and sourced high-interest stimulus texts linked to her personal interests. I also liaised with the SENCO to review whether additional support was appropriate. Result: She sat her mocks and achieved a Grade 5, and went on to achieve a Grade 6 in her final GCSE examinations — two full grades above her original prediction.
2Question

Describe a situation where you collaborated with colleagues to improve departmental outcomes or share best practice.

Situation: Our English department's KS4 results had plateaued for two consecutive years, with 61% of students achieving Grade 4 or above. Task: As the lead for KS4 English, I was asked to identify and address the gap before the next examination cycle. Action: I organised a half-termly sharing session where each of the five department members presented one strategy that had worked in their classroom. I compiled these into a shared resource bank and introduced a peer-observation rota. Result: The following year, 71% of students achieved Grade 4 or above — a 10-percentage-point improvement — and the approach was adopted as standard practice across the department.
