Our tips for applying

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Place your HGV Class 1 licence and Driver CPC details prominently at the top of your CV under a 'Licences & Certifications' section — the advert lists both as hard requirements.

2

📊 Quantify your delivery experience: e.g. 'Completed 12-15 multi-drop deliveries per shift across 80-mile radius, maintaining 98% on-time delivery rate.'

3

🌐 Highlight any temperature-controlled or food-grade logistics experience explicitly, as the advert flags this as preferred — even if gained in a previous role at a different employer.

4

🎯 Mention your willingness and history of working flexible or short-notice shift patterns, as the advert specifically calls out route variation and short-notice flexibility as a requirement.

5

🤝 Include a brief note on customer-facing experience at delivery points — the advert references 'excellent customer service' when delivering to independent retailer stores.

Aperçu — adapté à Tesco

Dear Hiring Manager,

Booker's reputation as the UK's leading food and drink wholesaler, serving over 190 cash and carry branches and 8 distribution centres, is precisely why this HGV Class 1 Driver position at your Wellingborough site appeals to me. I hold a valid Class 1 licence and current Driver CPC qualification, and I have hands-on experience completing multi-drop routes including handball deliveries to retail customers — skills your advert identifies as central to this role.

My background in food distribution logistics has equipped me with a strong understanding of temperature-controlled delivery requirements, tachograph compliance, and the physical demands of daily handball work. I am accustomed to routes that vary day to day and to adapting my schedule at short notice, which I understand is a key requirement for this position.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to deliver to a difficult or uncooperative customer at a drop point — how did you handle it?

Situation: On a busy Monday morning route covering 13 drops, I arrived at an independent convenience store where the owner refused to accept a chilled delivery, claiming the order was incorrect. Task: I needed to resolve the dispute quickly to avoid disrupting the remaining 12 drops and maintain the cold chain. Action: I calmly checked the delivery manifest against the order printout with the customer, identified that one pallet had been incorrectly labelled at the depot, and contacted my transport controller immediately to log the discrepancy. I offloaded the correct items and secured the disputed pallet for return. Result: The customer accepted the delivery, I completed the remaining route on schedule, and the depot corrected the labelling error the same day — preventing the same issue recurring across 3 other routes that week.
2Question

Describe a situation where adverse weather conditions affected your delivery schedule. What did you do?

Situation: During a January overnight shift, heavy snowfall caused a major A-road on my planned 11-drop route to close unexpectedly at 04:30. Task: I had 7 drops remaining, including 3 chilled deliveries with time-sensitive windows. Action: I pulled over safely, contacted my transport controller, and used my knowledge of the local road network to propose an alternative route via two B-roads. I updated my tachograph records to reflect the unplanned stop and reprioritised the chilled drops to come first on the revised route. Result: All 7 remaining deliveries were completed within 45 minutes of the original schedule, with no cold chain breaches recorded and positive feedback from two store managers who had been concerned about their morning stock levels.
