Our tips for applying

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Lead your CV personal statement with a direct reference to sales target achievement and trade customer relationship management, as the advert lists these as its top two requirements.

2

📊 Quantify your sales results wherever possible: e.g. 'Exceeded monthly sales targets by 22% for 8 consecutive months, contributing £180k in depot revenue.'

3

🎯 Mention any CAD or kitchen/bathroom design software experience (even basic) prominently — the advert flags it as preferred and training is offered, so showing prior exposure sets you apart.

4

🚗 Explicitly confirm your full UK driving licence and vehicle access in your CV profile or a dedicated 'Key Credentials' section, as home visits are a core part of the role.

5

🤝 Highlight experience dealing with trade professionals or contractors specifically — Howdens serves 460,000+ trade customers, so B2B or trade-facing sales background is a strong differentiator over general retail sales.

1Question

Tell me about a time you exceeded a sales target — what approach did you take and what was the outcome?

Situation: In my previous role at a builders' merchant, our depot was 12% behind its quarterly sales target with six weeks remaining. Task: As the lead sales contact for trade accounts, I was responsible for closing the gap. Action: I identified 20 dormant trade accounts that had not ordered in 90 days, called each one personally, and offered a tailored product review meeting. I also introduced a follow-up call within 48 hours of every quote issued. Result: We reactivated 14 accounts, and I personally closed £47,000 in additional orders in the final six weeks, finishing the quarter 4% above target. The follow-up call process was then adopted across the whole depot team.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to build trust with a difficult or sceptical trade customer. How did you approach it?

Situation: A local building contractor had switched suppliers after a delivery error and was reluctant to return. Task: I was asked to win back the account, worth approximately £18,000 per year. Action: I arranged a face-to-face meeting at their yard, listened to their concerns without interrupting, and presented a clear plan showing how we had changed our order-checking process. I offered a small pilot order with a guaranteed delivery window and followed up personally on the day of delivery. Result: The contractor placed the pilot order, received it on time, and within three months had returned to placing regular weekly orders. The account grew to £22,000 in the following year.
