Our tips for applying

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Lead your Personal Statement with your PQE level and Private Client specialism explicitly — the advert specifies '2+ PQE' as a minimum threshold, so make this unmissable at the top of your CV.

2

📊 Quantify your caseload: e.g. 'Managed a caseload of 80+ active probate and estate administration matters simultaneously, with an average estate value of £350,000.'

3

🎯 List each Private Client sub-specialism (wills, probate, trusts, Court of Protection, tax) as distinct bullet points under your current role — the advert requires coverage of the 'whole remit', so breadth is critical.

4

🏅 If you hold or are working towards STEP, place this prominently in your qualifications section — the advert flags it as ideal, giving you a competitive edge over candidates without it.

5

🌐 Mention any hybrid or flexible working experience to align with the firm's stated hybrid options, demonstrating you can manage client relationships and caseloads effectively in a blended environment.

Aperçu — adapté à Reed

Dear Hiring Manager,

Private Client law at a firm that genuinely invests in its people is exactly where I want to take my career — which is why I am applying for the Private Client Solicitor/Legal Executive position at your King's Lynn practice. With over two years' PQE in Private Client work, I bring hands-on experience across wills, probate, estate administration, trusts, and Court of Protection matters, covering the full remit your department requires.

My background in Private Client law has equipped me to manage complex estates with inheritance tax considerations, draft bespoke trust structures, and guide clients through sensitive probate processes with clarity and care. I have consistently maintained a caseload of 75+ active matters while delivering thorough, client-focused advice. I am currently working towards my STEP qualification, which I believe will add further depth to the technical tax planning work your team undertakes.

1Question

Tell me about a time you managed a particularly sensitive estate administration matter and how you supported the bereaved family.

Situation: A widow in her late seventies came to me three weeks after losing her husband, whose estate included a property, two investment portfolios, and an outstanding HMRC income tax query. Task: I needed to administer the estate efficiently while managing her distress and ensuring she understood every step. Action: I held a face-to-face meeting to map out the full process in plain English, set up fortnightly update calls, and liaised directly with HMRC to resolve the tax query within six weeks, removing her anxiety about a potential penalty. I also flagged a £28,000 residence nil-rate band entitlement her previous adviser had missed. Result: The estate was fully administered in 18 weeks, and the client wrote a formal letter of thanks to the firm's managing partner.
2Question

Describe a situation where you identified a tax planning opportunity for a client that significantly reduced their estate's liability.

Situation: A retired couple in their early seventies approached me to update their wills. During the initial meeting I identified their combined estate was valued at approximately £1.6 million, leaving a projected IHT liability of £230,000. Task: I was asked to review their overall estate planning position alongside updating the wills. Action: I recommended a combination of a discretionary will trust to utilise both nil-rate bands fully, a deed of variation on a recently inherited legacy of £95,000, and a structured gifting programme using annual exemptions. I also referred them to a financial adviser for bond-based planning. Result: The revised strategy reduced the projected IHT liability from £230,000 to £74,000, saving the family £156,000, and the clients referred two further family members to the firm within three months.
