1Question

Describe a situation where you identified a health and safety risk on the warehouse floor. What did you do?

Situation: During a night shift at a food distribution centre, I noticed a pallet had been left protruding into a main forklift aisle after a busy goods-in period. Task: As a senior picker on shift, I was responsible for flagging hazards before they caused an incident. Action: I immediately placed safety cones around the obstruction, informed the shift supervisor, and used the site's hazard reporting tablet to log the issue formally. I also briefed the two colleagues working nearby. Result: The pallet was relocated within 10 minutes, the near-miss was recorded, and the incident contributed to a revised goods-in stacking procedure that reduced aisle obstructions by roughly 40% over the following month.
2Question

Tell me about a time you had to meet a tight deadline in a warehouse or logistics role — how did you manage it?

Situation: Three weeks before Christmas at a regional DC, two colleagues called in sick during a peak dispatch shift, leaving our team of five short-handed with 1,800 orders to clear by 06:00. Task: As the most experienced picker on the floor, I needed to help the team reorganise and maintain throughput. Action: I split the remaining team by zone, took on the highest-volume ambient aisle myself, and communicated pick progress every 30 minutes to the supervisor. I also flagged two mis-picks early, correcting them before despatch. Result: We cleared 1,780 of the 1,800 orders by 06:15 — just 15 minutes late — with zero picking errors recorded, and the supervisor commended the team's coordination in the post-shift debrief.
