1Question

Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult customer during a delivery — how did you handle it?

Situation: A regular retail customer in Southampton refused a delivery, claiming 4 cases of soft drinks were missing from their order. Task: I needed to resolve the dispute on the spot without delaying the remaining 14 drops on my route. Action: I calmly reviewed the signed loading manifest with the customer, identified that the 4 cases had been loaded on a separate pallet and were at the back of the vehicle. I unloaded them immediately and had the customer sign the updated delivery note. Result: The customer was satisfied, I completed all remaining drops on time, and the branch supervisor noted the accurate paperwork meant no stock discrepancy was raised.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt your route or schedule due to an unexpected problem. What did you do?

Situation: Midway through a 18-drop shift, a road closure on the M27 added an estimated 45 minutes to my planned route. Task: I had to redeliver 6 remaining customers before their agreed delivery windows closed. Action: I pulled over safely, contacted the depot dispatcher, and together we reprioritised the remaining drops by proximity rather than original sequence. I also called ahead to two customers to give them a revised ETA. Result: All 6 deliveries were completed within their windows, no failed drops were recorded, and the dispatcher commended the proactive communication.
