📊 Quantify your childcare experience: e.g. 'Delivered EYFS-aligned activities for a key group of 8 children aged 2–4, achieving 95% positive parent feedback in termly reviews'.

3

🎯 Explicitly reference your Paediatric First Aid certificate with its expiry date, as this is listed as an essential requirement alongside your Level 3 qualification.

4

🔒 Confirm your enhanced DBS status and DBS Update Service subscription in your CV's personal statement — Protocol Education flags this as mandatory for all workers.

5

🌐 Include a brief line on your safeguarding training (e.g. online safeguarding or Prevent Duty courses completed), as Protocol Education emphasises DfE 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' compliance throughout the advert.

1Question

Tell me about a time you identified a safeguarding concern — how did you handle it?

Situation: During a routine key-person session, I noticed a 3-year-old in my group had an unexplained bruise and seemed withdrawn compared to her usual behaviour. Task: As the key person, I was responsible for acting on any welfare concerns promptly and in line with our nursery's safeguarding policy. Action: I calmly documented my observations with photographs and written notes, then immediately reported my concerns to the designated safeguarding lead without alerting the child's parents at that stage. I followed the nursery's escalation procedure and cooperated fully with the subsequent enquiry. Result: The concern was investigated appropriately by external agencies. The child received the support she needed, and my timely reporting was commended by the nursery manager during my next supervision.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt a planned activity because it wasn't engaging the children as expected.

Situation: I had planned a structured craft activity for a group of 8 children aged 2–3 focused on colour recognition, but within five minutes it was clear the children were restless and disengaged. Task: I needed to redirect the session to maintain learning outcomes while keeping the children settled and stimulated. Action: I pivoted to a sensory play approach, introducing coloured water trays and natural objects from the outdoor area, which aligned the same EYFS learning goals with hands-on exploration. I documented the adapted activity in the children's learning journals the same afternoon. Result: Engagement rose immediately — all 8 children participated for over 20 minutes, and 6 of them met the colour-recognition milestone recorded in their EYFS tracker that week.
