Gretton School welcomes autistic children and young people aged from 5-19 years old, as weekly boarders or as day learners.

Every learner at Gretton has a diagnosis of Autism, and the ability to learn at or above the level of their mainstream peers, but require a specialist setting in order to achieve their remarkable potential.

A broad curriculum, an emphasis on holistic development, and the development of life and social skills, means that we are able to bring out the best in all our learners, and to provide them with opportunities to flourish.

At whatever stage a young person joins Gretton, we will ensure they are happy and prepared to make the most of the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.

Nos conseils pour postuler

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Place your HCPC registration status prominently in your Personal Statement — the advert lists it as the primary requirement and ATS filters will screen for it first.

2

📊 Quantify your caseload experience: e.g. 'Managed a caseload of 25 paediatric clients, delivering 40+ therapy sessions per term across 1:1 and group formats'.

3

🎯 Explicitly reference sensory integration and autism in your skills section — the advert names both as core competencies and a generic 'paediatric OT' label will not stand out.

4

📝 Tailor your CV to highlight any experience contributing to IEPs, IBPs or Annual Reviews, as the advert specifically calls these out as key responsibilities.

5

🤝 Include a bullet on staff training delivery if applicable — the advert mentions 'delivering training to staff' as a distinct duty, which many OT CVs omit.

Aperçu — adapté à Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited

Dear Hiring Manager,

Gretton School's autism-specialist model — combining sensory integration therapy with embedded educational outcomes across IEPs and IBPs — is precisely the clinical environment in which I want to develop as a Band 5 Occupational Therapist. The school's high staff-to-learner ratio and commitment to evidence-based, individualised intervention aligns directly with the therapeutic approach I have built throughout my career working with autistic children and young people.

My background in paediatric occupational therapy includes delivering 1:1 and group-based sensory integration programmes, contributing to multidisciplinary reviews, and producing clinical reports to HCPC standards. I hold full HCPC registration and have experience supporting students with dysregulated behaviours through tailored sensory strategies, as well as delivering training to education staff to embed therapeutic approaches into daily school routines.

1Question

Tell me about a time you worked within a multidisciplinary team to support a child with complex needs — what was your specific contribution?

Situation: A 10-year-old autistic pupil at my previous school was experiencing daily meltdowns that were disrupting his learning and distressing peers. Task: As the OT on the MDT, I was asked to lead the sensory assessment element of his support plan review. Action: I conducted a full sensory profile assessment using the Sensory Processing Measure, shared findings with the SENCO, class teacher and behaviour lead, and co-designed a sensory diet embedded into his timetable. I also ran a 45-minute briefing for his three teaching assistants. Result: Within six weeks, recorded meltdown frequency dropped from an average of four per day to fewer than one, and his engagement in lessons increased markedly according to teacher observations.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt a therapy programme because it was not achieving the expected outcomes for a young person.

Situation: I was delivering a group fine motor skills programme to four Year 3 pupils, but after four sessions one pupil showed no progress and was becoming increasingly withdrawn. Task: I needed to identify why the group format was not working for her and revise the approach without disrupting the other three participants. Action: I observed her during unstructured time and identified significant vestibular sensory needs that the group programme did not address. I introduced two individual 20-minute proprioceptive sessions per week alongside the group work and liaised with her class teacher to adjust seating. Result: Within three weeks her pencil grip and letter formation improved by two developmental stages on our tracking tool, and her classroom confidence visibly increased.
