1Question

Tell me about a time you had to organise a complex task or event — how did you plan and deliver it?

Situation: I volunteered to coordinate my workplace's annual charity bake sale, which had previously been poorly organised and raised only £300. Task: I needed to recruit participants, manage logistics and promote the event within a 4-week window. Action: I created a simple project plan with weekly milestones, assigned roles to 8 colleagues, booked the venue two weeks in advance and set up a shared tracker so everyone could see progress. I held a 15-minute check-in each Friday to resolve blockers. Result: The event ran without issues, attracted 60 attendees and raised £740 — more than double the previous year — and the organising committee asked me to lead it again the following year.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to motivate others to meet a deadline or goal.

Situation: During a group university assignment, two of the five team members fell behind with their sections three days before the submission deadline. Task: As the informal group lead, I needed to re-energise the team without creating conflict. Action: I held a brief team call, broke the remaining work into smaller 90-minute tasks and offered to review drafts as they were completed. I sent encouraging messages after each section was submitted and kept the group focused on the shared goal of a first-class submission. Result: All sections were delivered 12 hours before the deadline, the assignment was submitted on time and the group received a mark of 72%, the highest in the cohort.
