1Question

Tell me about a time you had to organise a complex task or event — how did you plan and execute it?

Situation: I volunteered to organise a charity quiz night for a local sports club that had never run one before, with 3 weeks to plan it. Task: I needed to coordinate a venue, 8 question-setters, ticket sales, and catering for 60 attendees. Action: I created a simple project plan in a shared spreadsheet, assigned each task an owner and deadline, held two brief check-in calls, and built in a 3-day buffer before the event. I also drafted a communications timeline so ticket buyers received reminders at the right intervals. Result: The event ran on schedule, sold out all 60 tickets, and raised £820 for the charity — 37% above our original £600 target.
2Question

Give an example of when you had to motivate someone who was disengaged or struggling.

Situation: During a group university assignment worth 40% of our module grade, one team member fell behind after a family issue and disengaged from the project in week 3 of 5. Task: As the informal coordinator, I needed to re-engage them without adding pressure. Action: I had a private conversation to understand the issue, then restructured their tasks into smaller, lower-pressure deliverables — two short research sections rather than one large analysis. I checked in briefly every two days and acknowledged their contributions publicly in our group chat. Result: They completed all their revised tasks on time, the group submitted a day early, and we received a 68% mark — the highest in our cohort of 12 groups.
