Aperçu — adapté à Tesco

Dear Hiring Manager,

Booker's reputation as the UK's leading food and drink wholesaler makes this 18T Delivery Driver position in Eccles a role I am keen to pursue. Holding a full Cat C licence with over two years of commercial driving experience, I understand the importance of accurate delivery documentation and maintaining a reliable, customer-focused service on every drop.

My background in delivery driving has seen me manage multi-stop local routes, load and unload stock safely in line with manual handling procedures, and build strong relationships with regular customers — precisely the qualities your Eccles depot requires. I am comfortable with weekend working and flexible shift patterns, including Any 5 from 7 arrangements.

1Question

Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult customer during a delivery — how did you handle it?

Situation: While delivering chilled goods to a busy café in Manchester, the owner disputed the quantity on the delivery note, insisting two cases of stock were missing. Task: I needed to resolve the disagreement quickly without delaying my remaining four drops. Action: I calmly walked the owner through the signed pick list from the depot, cross-referenced the load against the manifest on my handheld device, and identified that one case had been placed at the rear of the vehicle behind another pallet. I retrieved it immediately and updated the paperwork on the spot. Result: The customer received the full order, signed off the delivery without issue, and specifically mentioned my professionalism to the branch manager the following week.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage a tight delivery schedule under pressure. What did you do?

Situation: During a busy Friday run covering 22 stops, a 40-minute road closure added significant delay to my route midway through the shift. Task: I had to ensure all time-sensitive deliveries — particularly three catering accounts with lunchtime service deadlines — were still completed on time. Action: I immediately contacted the depot controller, re-sequenced my remaining drops using the sat-nav to identify an alternative route, and prioritised the three catering customers by rerouting to them first. I also called ahead to two retail customers to notify them of a revised arrival window. Result: All three catering deliveries arrived before their 11:30 deadline, and only one retail stop was delayed by 20 minutes, with the customer satisfied by the advance notice.
