1Question

Tell me about a time you organised a complex task or event — how did you plan and deliver it?

Situation: I volunteered to coordinate a charity fundraising evening for 60 attendees with a budget of £800 and a 6-week lead time. Task: I was responsible for booking the venue, managing 5 volunteers, and coordinating catering and entertainment suppliers. Action: I created a simple project plan in a spreadsheet, assigned clear responsibilities to each volunteer, and held a brief weekly check-in to track progress and resolve blockers early. I also built in a two-day buffer before the event for final preparations. Result: The event ran on time, came in £45 under budget, and raised £1,200 for the charity — 20% above our original target.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to motivate others to complete a shared goal.

Situation: During a busy period at my part-time retail job, our team of 8 was behind on a stockroom reorganisation that needed to be completed before a store audit in 3 days. Task: As the most senior part-timer on shift, I took the lead in rallying the team without any formal authority. Action: I broke the task into manageable sections, assigned each person a clear area, and introduced a simple progress tracker on the whiteboard so everyone could see how far we had come. I kept morale up by acknowledging effort publicly during breaks. Result: We completed the reorganisation 4 hours ahead of the deadline, and the store passed the audit with no stockroom findings flagged.
