1Question

Tell me about a time you had to organise a complex task or event from start to finish — what was your approach?

Situation: I volunteered to organise a charity fundraising evening for 60 attendees with a £400 budget. Task: I needed to coordinate venue booking, catering, entertainment, and ticket sales within 5 weeks. Action: I broke the project into weekly milestones, assigned responsibilities to 4 other volunteers, and held a 20-minute check-in every Friday to track progress and resolve blockers. I created a shared spreadsheet to log tasks, owners, and deadlines. Result: The event ran on time, raised £1,150 — nearly three times the target — and came in £35 under budget. The committee asked me to lead the following year's event as a direct result.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to motivate others to meet a deadline or goal.

Situation: During a part-time retail role, our team of 8 was behind on a store reset that had to be completed before opening at 8am. Task: With 90 minutes remaining and roughly 40% of the work left, I needed to re-energise the team without a formal management title. Action: I quickly split the remaining tasks into two focused groups, took on the most time-consuming section myself, and gave regular 15-minute progress updates to keep momentum visible. I acknowledged each completed section out loud to maintain morale. Result: We finished the reset 12 minutes before opening, and the store manager noted the improved team coordination in the next team briefing.
