1Question

Tell me about a time you had to organise a complex task or event — how did you plan and execute it?

Situation: I volunteered to coordinate a charity fundraising evening for 80 guests at my local community centre, with no dedicated budget manager or venue coordinator. Task: I needed to manage bookings, catering, entertainment, and a raffle — all within a £600 budget and a 6-week timeline. Action: I created a simple project plan in a spreadsheet, assigned each workstream to a volunteer, held weekly 15-minute check-ins, and built in a two-day buffer before the event date. Result: The evening ran without incident, raised £1,450 for the chosen charity — 140% of the original target — and finished 20 minutes ahead of schedule.
2Question

Describe a situation where clear communication made a significant difference to an outcome. What did you do differently?

Situation: During a busy period at my previous retail role, a miscommunication between two shift supervisors led to three staff members being double-booked, leaving the shop floor understaffed on a Saturday. Task: As the senior sales assistant on duty, I needed to resolve the gap quickly without escalating to the store manager. Action: I held a five-minute team huddle, redistributed responsibilities across four remaining staff, and sent a clear written summary to both supervisors via the internal messaging app to prevent recurrence. Result: Customer wait times stayed under four minutes throughout the shift, and the store recorded its highest Saturday conversion rate of the month at 34%.
