Our tips for applying

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Place your QTS and Education Workforce Council registration prominently in your CV header or profile section — the advert lists both as hard requirements.

2

📊 Quantify your teaching impact: e.g. 'Raised Welsh GCSE pass rate from 68% to 84% across 3 Year 11 classes over one academic year'.

3

🎯 Highlight any experience in both English-medium and Welsh-medium schools, as the advert explicitly covers both settings across Cardiff.

4

🌐 Mention Welsh language proficiency level (e.g. fluent first-language speaker or C2 CEFR) clearly on your CV — it is the core subject specialism being recruited for.

5

🤝 If you have completed or are undertaking an NQT/ECT programme, call this out in your Personal Statement as Academics offer an extensive NQT programme and welcome NQTs explicitly.

Aperçu — adapté à Academics

Dear Hiring Manager,

Academics' secondary Welsh Teacher roles across Cardiff are a strong match for my background in Welsh language instruction and secondary classroom teaching. With Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and an active Education Workforce Council registration, I am ready to plan and deliver effective schemes of work covering Welsh reading, writing, vocabulary, and pronunciation from September 2026.

My background in secondary Welsh teaching has equipped me with practical assessment strategies to monitor pupil progress and adapt lessons for mixed-ability groups across both English-medium and Welsh-medium settings. I have experience establishing productive relationships with new classes quickly — a skill I understand is central to the supply and long-term placement work Academics specialises in.

1Question

Tell me about a time you quickly established a positive relationship with a new class at the start of a school year or placement.

Situation: I joined a Cardiff comprehensive mid-term as a supply Welsh teacher, taking over a Year 9 class of 27 pupils who had experienced three different teachers in six weeks. Task: I needed to rebuild trust and re-establish consistent routines within the first fortnight. Action: I introduced a structured starter activity each lesson using Welsh vocabulary games the class chose themselves, and held brief one-to-one check-ins with five pupils flagged as disengaged. I also shared a clear half-term plan so pupils knew what to expect. Result: Attendance in my Welsh lessons rose from 74% to 91% within four weeks, and the head of department noted a marked improvement in on-task behaviour during formal observations.
2Question

Give an example of when you used assessment data to change your teaching approach for a group of pupils.

Situation: Mid-way through a Year 10 Welsh GCSE unit, I reviewed mock assessment scripts for a group of 18 pupils and found that 14 were consistently losing marks on Welsh written accuracy, particularly mutations. Task: I needed to address this before the end-of-unit assessment in three weeks. Action: I redesigned two lessons to focus specifically on soft and nasal mutations using real GCSE past-paper sentences, introduced a peer-marking protocol, and created a one-page reference card pupils kept in their folders. Result: The group's average written accuracy score improved by 18 percentage points in the end-of-unit assessment, and three pupils who had been predicted a grade 4 achieved a grade 5.
