Aperçu — adapté à The Guardian

Dear Hiring Manager,

The Head of Marketing job share at the Royal British Legion is a role I have been looking for — a senior position where strategic multi-channel campaign leadership and the ability to influence at board level are genuinely valued, structured around 21 hours per week. My experience developing and executing integrated marketing strategies, managing complex stakeholder relationships and leading high-performing teams makes me well placed to contribute from day one.

My background in senior marketing leadership spans the full campaign lifecycle, from audience insight and strategic planning through to pipeline management and performance measurement across digital, print and events channels. I have led teams of up to 10 marketing professionals, delivered campaigns reaching audiences of over 500,000 and built stakeholder engagement frameworks that have aligned marketing activity directly to organisational objectives.

1Question

Tell me about a time you successfully influenced a senior leader to change direction on a marketing decision.

Situation: Our CEO had committed to a print-only awareness campaign for a major fundraising drive, based on historical precedent. Task: I needed to make the case for a digital-first approach without undermining confidence in the existing plan. Action: I prepared a data-led briefing comparing the reach and cost-per-acquisition of our last three print campaigns against two comparable digital campaigns, showing a 52% lower cost per donor acquisition online. I presented this to the leadership team in a 20-minute session, proposing a hybrid model that retained print for key demographics. Result: The CEO approved the revised approach. The campaign reached 180,000 people online and raised £94,000 — 23% above the original target.
2Question

Describe how you have managed a job-share or flexible working arrangement while maintaining strategic continuity and team performance.

Situation: Following a return from maternity leave, I transitioned into a 3-day-per-week arrangement as Marketing Manager while my job-share partner covered the remaining 2 days. Task: We needed to ensure the 8-person team experienced seamless leadership with no drop in campaign output. Action: We introduced a shared digital dashboard tracking all live campaigns, a weekly 30-minute handover call every Monday and Friday, and a single team briefing document updated in real time. I also restructured team check-ins so each direct report had at least one touchpoint with each of us weekly. Result: The team delivered 6 campaigns across the 6-month period with zero missed deadlines and a team satisfaction score of 87% in the next staff survey.
