I nostri consigli per candidarsi

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Lead your Personal Statement with direct SEND experience or transferable care/support work, as the advert explicitly names this as the key differentiator for shortlisting.

2

📊 Quantify your impact where possible: e.g. 'Supported 4 pupils with EHCP targets across 1:1 and small-group sessions, contributing to 3 pupils meeting termly progress milestones'.

3

🎯 Explicitly reference your valid enhanced DBS check and DBS Update Service subscription in your CV header or a dedicated 'Compliance' section, as these are mandatory requirements stated in the advert.

4

🌐 Highlight any CPD or safeguarding training completed (e.g. Prevent Duty, online safeguarding courses) to align with Protocol Education's free CPD offering and DfE 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' framework.

5

🤝 Include a brief example of building a positive relationship with a child with additional needs — the advert specifically calls out 'building positive relationships that boost confidence', so a concrete scenario in your CV or cover letter will resonate strongly.

Aperçu — adapté à Protocol Education

Dear Hiring Manager,

Protocol Education's SEND Teaching Assistant vacancy in Carshalton stands out because of its clear focus on 1:1 pupil support and emotion regulation — two areas I find genuinely rewarding. The school's commitment to creating an inclusive environment where every child feels understood aligns closely with the way I approach support work, and I hold a valid enhanced DBS check with DBS Update Service subscription.

My background in supporting children with additional needs has equipped me with practical strategies for helping pupils engage with learning, manage their emotions, and build confidence over time. I have experience working closely alongside class teachers to adapt activities to individual needs, and I actively pursue CPD opportunities to strengthen my practice in SEND settings.

1Question

Tell me about a time you helped a child with additional needs achieve a small but significant milestone.

Situation: I was supporting a 7-year-old with autism who refused to participate in group reading sessions, sitting under the table for the first two weeks. Task: My goal was to help him feel safe enough to engage without forcing participation. Action: I introduced a visual countdown so he knew exactly when the session would end, sat beside him at floor level rather than at the table, and let him hold a fidget tool throughout. After three weeks, I gradually moved us closer to the group. Result: By week five, he was sitting at the table for the full 15-minute session and volunteered to point at a picture in the book — his teacher noted it in his termly progress report as a breakthrough moment.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to remain calm and patient when a pupil was displaying challenging behaviour.

Situation: During a 1:1 numeracy session, a 9-year-old with ADHD became frustrated and swept all the resources off the table, then began shouting. Task: I needed to de-escalate without escalating the situation further or disrupting the adjacent classroom. Action: I lowered my voice, moved to his eye level, and used a calm, slow tone to offer him a two-minute break in the reading corner — a strategy agreed in his behaviour support plan. I avoided issuing commands and simply waited quietly beside him. Result: Within four minutes he had self-regulated, returned to the table, and completed six of the ten questions. The class teacher later noted the approach in his weekly behaviour log as effective.
