1Question

Tell me about a time you delivered excellent customer service in a face-to-face or doorstep setting.

Situation: While working as a delivery driver for a local grocery firm, I arrived at an elderly customer's home to find that 3 of her 10 items had been substituted due to stock issues. Task: I needed to explain the changes clearly and ensure she was happy before I left. Action: I took a moment on the doorstep to walk her through each substitution, explained the refund process for the one item she didn't want, and helped carry the bags to her kitchen. Result: She called the depot afterwards to praise the interaction, and I was recognised by my manager at the next team briefing. The customer went on to request my route specifically for the following 4 weeks.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt quickly to an unexpected change while working independently.

Situation: Midway through a 20-stop delivery shift, my sat-nav failed and road closures due to an accident blocked my planned route. Task: I had 12 deliveries remaining and 2 hours left in the shift window. Action: I pulled over safely, used my mobile to reroute manually, reprioritised the 4 time-critical slots, and called ahead to 2 customers whose deliveries would be slightly delayed. Result: I completed all 12 deliveries within the shift window, with only one delivery running 8 minutes late. The customer who received the late delivery had already been called and was understanding, leaving a positive feedback note.
