Aperçu — adapté à Tesco

Dear Hiring Manager,

Tesco's reputation for putting customers first is exactly what draws me to the Customer Delivery Driver role at the Ipswich Extra store. With a valid full UK driving licence held for over three years and a strong background in customer-facing service, I am confident I can represent Tesco professionally at every doorstep, handling order substitutions and ensuring deliveries arrive within the customer's time slot.

My background in delivery and customer service has equipped me with the practical skills this role demands — from completing pre-drive vehicle safety checks and loading vans securely, to communicating clearly with customers about any order changes in a warm and reassuring manner. I am comfortable working independently on the road while remaining a reliable part of the wider store team.

1Question

Tell me about a time you delivered excellent customer service under pressure.

Situation: During a busy Saturday shift at a supermarket, our delivery system went down mid-route, leaving me without updated order notes for 6 customers. Task: I needed to complete all deliveries on time and handle any discrepancies professionally at the door. Action: I called the store to get manual updates for each order, communicated transparently with each customer about potential substitutions, and offered immediate refunds where items were missing. I also reorganised my remaining route to recover 20 minutes of lost time. Result: All 18 deliveries were completed within their time slots, and I received 3 written compliments from customers that week, which were shared in the team briefing.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to adapt quickly to an unexpected change while working independently.

Situation: Halfway through a delivery run of 22 orders, a road closure due to a burst water main blocked my planned route through a residential area. Task: I had to reroute on the spot to avoid missing 8 customer time slots in the affected postcodes. Action: I used my knowledge of the local area to identify an alternative route, contacted the store to flag the delay for 2 customers whose slots I could not recover, and prioritised the remaining deliveries by proximity. Result: 20 of the 22 deliveries were completed on time, and the 2 affected customers were proactively contacted by the store before I arrived, resulting in no complaints logged against the shift.
