Our tips for applying

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Open your Personal Statement with explicit SEN/SEND leadership credentials, as the advert lists 'Lead the identification, assessment, and support' as the primary responsibility.

2

📊 Quantify your inclusion impact: e.g. 'Developed an inclusion framework adopted across 6 departments, increasing learner retention by 18%'.

3

🎯 Highlight safeguarding experience directly — the role requires acting as a key safeguarding team member, so reference any DSL or safeguarding training prominently.

4

🌐 Reference your Further Education or apprenticeship-specific experience clearly, as the setting is FE rather than schools — this distinguishes you from candidates with purely KS1-KS5 backgrounds.

5

🤝 Demonstrate team leadership with concrete examples: number of staff managed, objectives set, and measurable outcomes achieved against KPIs.

1Question

Tell me about a time you led a team through a significant change in inclusion policy — what was your approach and what was the outcome?

Situation: My FE college was required to align its inclusion provision with updated SEND Code of Practice guidance within one academic term. Task: As SEN Lead, I was responsible for redesigning our assessment and support processes and upskilling a team of 6 support workers. Action: I mapped existing gaps against the new requirements, created a phased implementation plan, and ran five CPD workshops covering revised EHCP processes and adjusted KPIs. I introduced fortnightly team check-ins to track progress and address blockers early. Result: We achieved full compliance before the deadline, learner satisfaction scores in our annual survey rose from 74% to 89%, and two team members were promoted to senior support roles within 12 months.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to advocate strongly for a learner with additional needs against institutional resistance.

Situation: A 19-year-old apprentice with an undiagnosed processing difficulty was at risk of being withdrawn from their programme after failing two assessments. Task: I needed to secure reasonable adjustments quickly while the formal SEND assessment was still pending. Action: I presented documented evidence of the learner's classroom performance to the curriculum manager, cited the Equality Act 2010 duty to make reasonable adjustments, and arranged an interim support plan including extended assessment time and a weekly 1-to-1 session. Result: The learner completed the programme with a Merit grade, and the experience prompted the college to introduce an interim adjustments policy, benefiting 14 additional learners in the following academic year.
