1Question

Tell me about a time you organised a complex task or event — how did you plan and execute it?

Situation: I volunteered to coordinate my local sports club's annual fundraising dinner for 120 guests, which had previously overrun its budget by 20%. Task: My goal was to deliver the event on time and within the £1,500 budget while improving the guest experience. Action: I created a detailed task list with deadlines assigned to 8 volunteers, held two brief check-in meetings in the weeks before the event, and negotiated a 12% discount with the catering supplier by booking early. Result: The event ran on schedule, came in £180 under budget, and post-event feedback from 95% of attendees rated the organisation as 'excellent' — the highest score in three years.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to motivate others to meet a deadline or goal.

Situation: During a busy retail period, three colleagues on my shift were visibly disengaged after a long run of consecutive shifts, and we were behind on restocking 40 product lines before the store opened. Task: As the most senior team member on shift, I needed to lift morale and ensure the work was completed within 90 minutes. Action: I reorganised the team into two pairs, assigned each pair a clear section, and introduced a friendly competition with a coffee round as the prize. I also stepped in to help with the heaviest section myself. Result: We completed all 40 lines 15 minutes ahead of schedule, and two colleagues specifically mentioned the shift as one of their better experiences that month.
