Our tips for applying

5 recommandations générées par notre IA pour maximiser vos chances.

1

⭐ Place your NASENCO qualification (or active enrolment) prominently in your Personal Statement, as the advert lists it as a key requirement alongside QTS.

2

📊 Quantify your SEND impact: e.g. 'Coordinated EHCPs for 45 students, reducing review backlog by 30% within one academic year' to demonstrate measurable outcomes.

3

🎯 Dedicate a CV section to SEND legislation expertise — explicitly reference the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and any local authority frameworks you have worked within, as compliance is central to this role.

4

🤝 Highlight cross-stakeholder collaboration experience — name the types of external agencies (e.g. CAMHS, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists) you have liaised with, as the advert specifically calls this out.

5

🌐 Emphasise your non-teaching SENDCO or strategic leadership experience if applicable, since this is a non-teaching post focused on whole-school SEND strategy rather than classroom delivery.

1Question

Tell me about a time you identified a gap in SEND provision and led a strategic change to address it. What was the outcome?

Situation: When I joined my previous school, annual EHCP reviews were running an average of 9 weeks late, putting the school at risk of local authority non-compliance. Task: As SENDCO, I was responsible for bringing the review cycle back within statutory timescales for 48 students. Action: I introduced a colour-coded tracking spreadsheet, delegated review preparation tasks to two trained teaching assistants, and scheduled a rolling calendar of parent meetings each half-term. I also briefed the headteacher monthly on progress. Result: Within one academic year, 96% of reviews were completed on time, the local authority removed the school from its monitoring list, and parent satisfaction scores in the annual survey rose by 22 percentage points.
2Question

Describe a situation where you had to manage a difficult conversation with a parent or carer regarding their child's SEND support. How did you handle it?

Situation: A parent was deeply unhappy that their Year 9 son's EHCP had not secured a specialist placement, and arrived at school demanding an immediate meeting. Task: I needed to de-escalate the situation, explain the local authority decision clearly, and agree a constructive path forward. Action: I arranged a private meeting the same afternoon, listened without interruption for the first ten minutes, then walked through the tribunal appeal process step by step. I contacted the local authority SEND team that week to request an urgent review and commissioned an updated Educational Psychologist report. Result: A revised EHCP was issued within 8 weeks, securing a specialist resourced provision place for September. The parent later wrote a letter of thanks to the headteacher.
