1Question

Tell me about a time you delivered excellent customer service in a challenging situation.

Situation: During a busy Friday evening shift, I arrived at a customer's address to find that 4 items in their order had been substituted and one was missing entirely. The customer was visibly frustrated as the missing item was a key ingredient for a dinner party that evening. Task: I needed to resolve the situation calmly and maintain Tesco's standard of warm doorstep service. Action: I apologised sincerely, walked the customer through each substitution clearly, processed an immediate refund for the missing item on the handheld device, and noted their feedback for the store team. Result: The customer thanked me personally and left a positive comment on the post-delivery survey, rating the interaction 5 out of 5 despite the order issue.
2Question

Describe a time when you had to adapt quickly to an unexpected change while working independently.

Situation: Midway through a Saturday delivery route covering 22 stops, my sat-nav lost signal in a rural area and two consecutive addresses had incorrect postcodes on the manifest. Task: I had to locate both addresses independently without delaying the remaining 18 deliveries. Action: I used a combination of the customer contact numbers provided, a paper map in the van, and local knowledge to locate both properties within 10 minutes. I also called ahead to the next three customers to manage their expectations on timing. Result: I completed the full route only 12 minutes behind schedule, and none of the affected customers raised a complaint — two specifically praised the proactive communication call.
